A conflict of interest that prevents an attorney from ethically representing the interests of both an insurer and its policyholder. Disqualifying conflicts of interest often arise when an insurer reserves its rights to deny coverage to its policyholder while it agrees to provide a defense to its policyholder in a plaintiff’s lawsuit.
